who would have thought that children's shows could still be so entertaining.  got on netflix the other night with some friends and ended up watching the first ever episode of rugrats and then the new adventures of pippi longstockings.

what does that sound gay or something?  no and it wasn't just me i was with 2 other guys.

not that having had a few beers made it more entertaining, but seeing a small redheaded girl get thrown around a boat, being poorly dubbed, followed by a talking hoarse, possible dirty lyrics, and an ice cream fight this movie had everything.  And that was just the first hour of the movie. Movie making magic right there.

what happened to such light hearted moments?  why is it though when i think back to childhood memories all the old tv shows pop up first.  good old friend the tv.  like legends of the hidden temple when that creepy steve irwin (RIP) impersonater tries to interview 10 yr old kids about going thru a maze.  what do you expect them to say?  "i tried to go fast"  thanks for that update.  now since you won you get roller blades and a trip with your family to the bahamas.  Congrats a trip that you are too young to really appreciate and a gift that if you keep for more than 5 yrs and use you will be shunned.

then theres doug. theres a classic.  i feel like dougs family was the only white family.  skeeter was like blue-green.  patty was really tan...that beebee girl was reddish purple.  roger was green.  mr dink was purple.  how do i remember these names?  this conversation has come up before.  what was his dogs name?  pork-chop.  superhero name?  quail man.  wore underwear on the outside and a belt on his head.

rugrats another classic.  who wouldnt want to watch babies crawl around and go on crazy adventures?  there seems to always be a target audience for watching babies.  i'd guess pedophiles are mixed in there.  but theres so many baby entertainment movie/shows.  look who's talking, 3 men and a baby, baby geniuses, baby muppets, baby einstein, 2 and half men.  charlie sheen needs to just stop...

thinking back to all the great shows that used to be on cartoon network and nickelodeon makes me remember how bad the new shows are on those channels.  live action has been the downfall of those programs.  i dont want to watch icarly.  spongebob is the savior of that network, though i thought a kid died trying to find spongebob once.  whose fault is that?  the locksmith.

where or where did childhood go?  now on tv i find myself sinking into a couch watching other people live their lives when i feel mine is to boring to try and do anything.  i try to watch things that are funny, i feel it keeps my humor fresh at times.  then when people turn on jersey shore i want to break things.  how do people watch that garbage?  is TV the bane of mankind.  quite possibly.  i was reading a book about how terrible TV is for civic engagement.  ironically though i found myself thinking that this book is doing about the same thing as i sit in my room reading about how being at home alone really cuts down on community time.  so as i wrapped my head around that one i put the book down to write about how much i love old tv. ironic?  or just a waste of time?

i don't know how to qualify things as a waste of time.  i'd think it would have to be when you're super pissed off.  otherwise if you're not unhappy at least you have that going for you.  like a waste of time might be rebuilding levees for a town that's built itself below sea level.  that seems counter intuitive.  i wonder if film makers ever think to themselves how as much entertainment they may be creating how much time they are taking away from the publics family maybe.  just as i write these words down...i could be doing something so much more productive like homework.  well you only live once, unless maybe you have the necronomicon.  gosh Army of Darkness is a good movie.  check it out.

anyhooo

happy travels
